"I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace, in the world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world."
I have an index card with this scripture written on it by sister-in-law while I was in college. It was during a time where my epilepsy took a downfall, was going through testing in hospitals, and overall just severely sick. My roommate had organized a sweet surprise where all of my friends had written scripture to uplift my spirit when I returned. There was index cards taped on the wall next to the futon where I was sleeping so I would go to bed seeing His word and waking up seeing scripture.
So, during that time of feeling really defeated, it did bring me a sense of peace because I knew that, regardless, it was all temporary. The thing that took me so long to accept and understand was the suffering. We tend to get stuck in the hardships in life and have laser focus on how painful, heartbreaking, exhausting parts of it is because it's easy. It's easy to get stuck in that cycle of trouble whether it be health, accomplishments, things out of our control in our world, etc. because that's where the enemy wants us.
We need to shift focus and really look and see how victorious our God is. He is the Prince of Peace, we find that in Him. But also, in the middle of whatever comes our way, never forget that He has already overcome the world. What a God we know and love! Thank you, Jesus, for taking on the wrath we deserved so that we can have true life. So we should remember to take heart, have peace in this world that needs Him so badly.
